7 Ways to Find (Steal) Inspiration for Content Writing

Funny thing is I’ve been stuck with a blank screen for over twenty minutes. Is it because inspiration did not arrive at my desk this morning? I could make quite a few excuses.  Or I could take a walk….

Walking

Walking along the pond with trees, plants, assorted birds, dragonfly and alligators doing life around the pond. Stopping by and chatting with a neighbor that feeds the bird everyday. Others sitting in the distance with fishing rode hoping to have the catch of the day.

What do you see when you take a walk? There are things that might inspire you.

Dining

A conversation with an assigned server to our table always brings inspiration. The where, how, why and what may lead you into another world. One of my recent server, a young lady from Miami of Irish and Ecuadorian descent speaks only English and aspires to be an artist. She shared about her life, her struggles and where she is heading after this gig.

There are at least ten articles to be written from that one dinner at the restaurant.

Shopping

I see signs, marketing strategies, headlines everywhere in the mall and local grocery store. Why certain items stands out and others don’t. There is a strategy behind every aisle and words used on the flyer.

We can write all day about health, nutrition, weight gain, marketing, people and many more. There is an endless supply of content writing when you go shopping.

Movies

Good movies could transform you to another world; inspire you to be more or to look at life through the eyes of the characters.

Have you been inspired by a movie?

Music

I’m always inspired by music. That’s what music is for…to change the atmosphere of a room, to help us think through issues and give writers an array of topic to write about. I could even write about real estate by listening to certain musician.

This is one of my all time favorites about faith because the opposite of faith is fear. Fear will not help us move forward in life. Fear will slow you down in content writing or any writing.

Kids

My kids ideas, hopes, fears and playful moments make me stop making excuses of not being able to come up with content for clients.

No kids? Don’t worry, how about volunteering in a kid's camp this summer?

Traveling

Most of all, traveling inspires me to be more. Travel has opened windows to a world that I could never ever imagine. St. Augustine said it so well and I sum it up with his quote:

“The world is a book and those who do not travel read only one page”

How many pages do you want to read?

Here are just 7 ways I find inspiration for content writing. They may not be your cup of tea. It’s your turn to share! What inspires you to write? Please comment below.

Great ideas to stoke the writing fire! What a beautiful way to live life, as well, reading the book of life in the people and creation all around us to enjoy!

Love your tips! I have certainly been in that ‘blank’ position more than once! What has become my motivation is to take a break and get away from the computer for a few minutes…sort of clear my head…It seems when I let it go ideas flood in! Thanks!

Great areas to find inspiration, for sure. My biggest are God’s creation around me, classical music, and my kids! Great food is always good, too :)

Oh boy, you’re speaking to me now, lol! Great tips. Currently, as I write mostly about music ministry, I draw most often from my own experiences and knowledge that God has given me over the years.
But I sure do get stuck, and often! This article is a great reminder to keep our eyes and ears open for the inspiration that is all around us.

Thanks!

Good tips for finding inspiration to write, Claudia. When I am at a loss for the topic for my week I read other blogs, Facebook comments and think about the feelings they pull up in me. If I have an opinion I can write about that; just like last weeks blog…I was sick and tired of reading about friends and family dying, raising money for a cause and more. It made me mad because I am not a talker I am a doer. So…I wrote about that.
