A Day In Denver

By Lori Thayer

There are many great ways to enjoy Denver, Colorado. It is a beautiful place to be with the Rocky Mountains soaring above to the west.

Looking for ideas for the next time you are in town?

We'll cover a few options for a wonderful day in Denver in this article. The sun shines more than 300 days a year in Denver, so even in the winter it is usually a great time to be outside.

Denver is a town of active people. There are many activities available from world-class skiing only a few hours away to hiking in the foothills. We'll focus on ideas for a relaxing day in the city of Denver and surrounding areas.

Start the day with brunch at Snooze

. Eat well to prepare yourself for a busy day. Snooze has a lot of great options on the menu. You can't go wrong with a place that has chocolate/peanut butter pancakes. The only difficult part will be which item to choose. There are three different locations in the Denver area so there is sure to be one not too far.

After brunch head to the Denver Botanic Gardens

The gardens are extensive and include many different areas… the Japanese Gardens, Water Gardens, Alpine Gardens, the Romantic Gardens and a conservatory to name a few.

The Gardens also offers food so you can grab a bite to eat and sit and enjoy the beauty and peace of your surroundings. Recently they added WIFI access. So feel free to catch up on some emails while you relax. (I'm letting you in on one of my favorite work spots here!)

When you are ready to leave the Gardens, just hop on a bike from the Denver B-Cycle program. For a small fee, you have access to a bike for 24 hours. The bike can be rented from and returned to any of their 50 stations across the city.  Over 500 bikes are available. Find some great bike trails in Denver at BikeDenver.org

After a few hours of activity and exploring the city, ride over to Cherry Creek and have dinner at Elway's. There is even a bike station nearby.  Yes, Elways is names for Denver's favorite Bronco: John Elway.  Don't let this dissuade you. The restaurant has been winning awards for years.  This year's Best of Westword, 2011 awarded it the Best Steakhouse, Best Chili and Best Sushi in a non-sushi restaurant.

Follow up your meal with a drive to the foothills and spend your evening at Red Rocks. Red Rocks is a natural amphitheatre. It is the only naturally-occurring, acoustically perfect amphitheatre in the world. Famous musicians play at Red Rocks most nights. It is a fabulous concert venue. They also have movie nights during the summer. There is also a gorgeous park at Red Rocks and during the day it is a great place to explore and get some exercise.
