“So much to do, so little time…come back soon” read the brochure as we walked out of the Norwegian Sun into sunny and friendly island also known as One Happy Island. I like the energy in Aruba. It’s my favorite out of all four islands we visited recently with the Norwegian Sun.Come along with me for a sightseeing tour of the island of Aruba in pictures:
Our friendly tour guide Tico and bus driver Clarence drove away after the bus was filled with passengers from the cruise ship. We paid $20 per person for a three hour tour. They gave us four hours instead. The music started before we drove away in the open air bus (without windows or air conditioning).
Take a look at what we saw along the way:
The above is Aruba's Christmas tree. Our first stop was at Casibari Rock. These are clusters of tonalite rocks near Ayo Village. It offers a view of Oranjestad, the capital of Aruba and the surrounding areas.
Aruba is one of the ABC islands of The Lesser Antilles (Aruba, Bonaire and Curacao) covering 70 square miles of land. It is only 17 miles away from Venezeula and has about 97,000 people of 40 nationalities. Aruba is dry and has less than 25 inches of rain per way. Cactus are seen growing in the wild and in the front yard of homes. It has a year round temperature of about 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
The locals are multi-lingual. Our guide, Tico spoke four languages fluently. He was using Spanish and English during our tour. The US Dollar is widely used although the official currency is Florin. One dollar is about 1.6 Florin (when we were there).
This One Happy Island is carefree and relaxing. Look out for Part 2 of this sightseeing tour on this fun bus shown below:
