Bountiful Hearts

By Claudia Looi 1 Comment

22 Nov
I must confess, two years ago when I volunteered in our local shelter, I had a judgmental heart. Looking at the men and women that came with their nice vehicles to get food for Thanksgiving didn’t settle well with me.

Questions like, “how can they drive nice cars and ask for free food?” and “have they been to Asia or Africa to see the poorest of the poor, who had not a grain to eat and walked for days to find food?”

In our travels we have seen poverty, lack and need in every area of life. None have what we have in America. Despite the reports of bad economy, we have more than most have ever seen in their lifetime. But I refuse to judge, instead went out to give and volunteer locally.

After much soul searching and cleansing this year, I saw them in a different light….

Many came walking for miles or waiting for the local bus to take them to the holiday tent. I saw a teen girl with a precious baby in her arm, a single mom with five little kids running around, overweight depressed middle aged women with canes to aid them while standing in line, men who might have fallen or been in an accident and have no use of their legs and now in wheelchairs and many more.

Compassion comes with a bountiful heart. A heart that goes beyond our own circumstances and struggles. The art of giving is not normal for human beings. We are naturally selfish and self-centered. It is apparent everywhere in the world. Whether you are in Bukhara, Singapore, Tamarindo or Miami, the first person you and I think about is “What’s in it for ME”. Nothing wrong with that but if that is all we think about isn’t it time to venture outside ME?

America is a great nation…a generous and giving nation.

We give more than any country in the world although our resources are becoming less each day. As a mom of two teens, I’m very intentional about raising them to give back and see sufferings and pain with eyes of compassion and kindness. They are the future of America and the legacy of giving has to be carried out to the next generation.

The great book said:
The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed

Rabbi Daniel Lapin said:
Through the mystical alchemy of money, giving charity jump-starts wealth creation

We have been refreshed and will not do it any other way.

This Thanksgiving we are thankful for our clients and readers. Our hope is to add value to your life and business. At the same time, a portion of our profits we give to those who are in need in Africa, Asia, South America or America.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Most visitors only spend a few hours in San Marino Most visitors only spend a few hours in San Marino. I decided to stay overnight, and it completely changed the experience.

As the day-trippers left, the streets fell silent. The medieval castle took on a different charm in the warm evening light, the sunset over the surrounding countryside was unforgettable, and dinner was a delicious plate of fresh truffle pasta.

If you’re planning a trip through Italy, don’t just make San Marino a quick stop. Spend the night. You’ll experience a peaceful side of one of the world’s smallest countries that many visitors never get to see.

Would you stay overnight in San Marino?

Nature never stops surprising me. Have you ever seen a seed that can do this?

Dressed in their striking chokha costumes and papakha hats, they practiced powerful, warrior-like movements rooted in centuries of Caucasian tradition.

It wasn’t a staged performance for tourists, just a beautiful, authentic glimpse into Azerbaijan’s living culture. These spontaneous moments are often the ones I remember most from my travels.
